Fighting Corona – who’s doing what

Motorsport Safety Solutions (see the feature in Touching Base 8) have repurposed ambulances and their crews from covering the world’s motorsport events and film locations. Following due dilligence from the Quality Care Commission, ambulances and crews are now deployed in the local area, dealing with front line emergency care. To help, Greenham Business park has provided six sleeping pods for the crews on the park.

To aid the efforts of MSS and its dedicated team of medics, another park occupier, Detail My Car, has been able to manufacture alcohol gel for sanitising hands.

Park occupier West Berks Food Bank is playing a key role in helping locally. Demand for their help has risen exponentially – besides their regular clients they are now delivering food to a large number of newly hard-up people who have been laid off or furloughed or are waiting for money to come through. The park has provided a large new warehouse for their use during the crisis. Parcels with enough food to last a week are being delivered to doorsteps around the local area.

As a long established supplier of medical equipment, Ortho Consulting (see a feature about them in Touching Base 11) were approached by the NHS to help with the provision of essential supplies to fight the pandemic.

Although the company normally deals with orthopedic supplies, its contacts with the medial supplies industry has enabled it to source both cheaply and in conformity to ISO regulations, body bags, visors, face masks and surgical suits. Ortho Consulting staff have been checking supplies arriving at Heathrow and distributing equipment to front line workers from councils, care homes, the police and the NHS.

As part of its push to find all these supplies, Ortho Consulting approached another park occupier, 3T RPD, who have pledged to 3D print 11,000 visors. 3T specialises in a range of additive manufacturing processes, from plastic to metal. The first 1,000 visors have been distributed and are  already in use – the rest are in production and should be supplied to front line workers shortly.

Lancer Labels recently joined a Facebook group called For the Love of Scrubs and posted out that it was able to offer labels for people to sew in to Scrubs being used on the Front line. The company was absolutely inundated with requests and is getting more every day.

For the first batch, Lancer Labels offered the first 500 Customers who contacted them 100 Labels each free of charge (50,000 Labels). The demand for these labels is incredible! Another batch will no doubt be forthcoming.

The government is looking for businesses who can support in relieving the current crisis. If you think you might be able to help visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-support-from-business to register.
